Less than an hour after the Caulfield earthquake, another small earthquake occurred about 9 km south of Boolarra South, 15 km north of Foster, and 138 km southeast of Melbourne. Preliminary analysis indicates that it was relatively deep by Australian standards, about 18 km beneath the surface, so it may not be reported felt. It was too small to cause any damage.

A small earthquake occurred beneath the suburb of Caulfield, about 8 km southeast of the city of Melbourne. It was felt in the southeast suburbs of Melbourne, including Clayton, St Kilda, Elsternwick and South Yarra, with some reports from beyond Dandenong. It was too small to cause any damage. Another moderate magnitude earthquake occurred about 18 km northeast of Reids Flat, east of Wyangala Reservoir, and 139 km north of Canberra. It was reported felt in Orange to the north and in Bowral to the east. An earthquake of this magnitude could cause minor damage within a few kilometres of its epicentre if it occurred within a few kilometres of the surface. The epicentral region is a sparsely populated rural area.
