This earthquake occurred about 4 kilometres north of Fish Creek in South Gippsland, about 10 km west of Foster and 135 km SE of Melbourne. It was felt in Fish Creek, Middle Tarwin, Inverloch, Foster and Leongatha, but no damage has been reported. It was followed by an aftershock of magnitude 1.9 at 0800UTC (06:00 pm AEST) and another of magnitude 3 at 0801 UTC (06:01 pm AEST).There have been several aftershocks in the weeks following, the largest of which was of magnitude 3.5 at 1139UT on the 24th of September (09:39 pm AEST).

This earthquake occurred near Lake Sorell in central Tasmania, about 75km north of Hobart. The earthquake has been felt widely, with many reports from Hobart.This is the largest earthquake to occur in Tasmania since the magnitude 4.5Mole Creek earthquake of August 1997. Two aftershocks were recorded in the minutes following the main shock, the first about magnitude 3 and the second about magnitude 2.5. For an earthquake of this size, aftershocks may continue for a few days.
