Waves 4.0 now includes our eqFocus earthquake location & magnitude calculation algorithms in a free software package that anyone can use for educational or operational applications.
Watch the first few minutes of the video below for an overview of Waves 4.0, and keep reading below for more information.
Waves has always been a simple-to-use application for analysing raw seismic waveform data, and for years we’ve been wanting to create something similarly intuitive to locate events. Processing earthquake data for the last 45 years has given our seismologists the experience to design a workflow optimised for processing waveforms from a limited number of stations over a small geographic area – ideal for regional observatories and aftershock survey data sets. Being able to visually include and defer wave arrivals speeds up the refinement process, resulting in better quality solutions with less processing time.
Download the free Waves application for Windows, macOS or Ubuntu now. We will continue to improve the new earthquake location feature of Waves over the coming years, so your feedback is encouraged. Please get in touch using our contact form if you have any comments, find any bugs, or have any feature requests that you’d like us to consider in future updates.
